Meet our newest Hilltop Action Coalition Board Member

Amita Lonial believes that the Hilltop is rich in culture, community, creativity, connection, history, love and vision.

It is resilient, defiant, and a force to be reckoned with – the people’s pool comes to mind to her, as well as the continued fight for restoring library services, etc.

Amita is not only a new member of Hilltop Action Coalition, but she also serves the community as the Assistant Library Director at the Main Branch. Her interest in joining the Hilltop Action Coalition board was sparked by her commitment to support Hilltop and fighting displacement and gentrification that is underway.

The Hilltop is not a new neighborhood to Amita, but a comforting one as she first moved to Tacoma and rented in the Hilltop with her partner off of 25th and Yakima. Feeling strongly connected to the community, she was priced out with the difficulty of purchasing property in our area.

However, that did not stop her from her continued drive to remain Hilltop active. Amita looks forward to supporting Hilltop Action Coalition with fundraising, accounting, youth development, and event planning.

She has worked in public libraries for over a decade. Prior to becoming a librarian, she spent 8 years in the non-profit sector working for grassroots organizations advancing racial and economic justice. She adores Hilltop Action Coalition and appreciates the vision, care, and energy!

We are so excited to have her on board and we know she is looking forward to serving her beloved Hilltop community.
